As a company spokesperson noted, alpaca wool is spun into a luxurious, soft, and warm yarn that many knitters around the world love to use. Unfortunately, the alpaca breeders and owners are not living a luxury lifestyle that reflects the price of the yarn.

Living above 4,000 meters in altitude, low temperatures and climate change threatens the lives of the alpacas that provide 80 percent of the families' incomes. With two large producers buying nearly 80 percent of all Peruvian alpaca wool, prices are kept low and breeders don't have the money to cover costs of producing wool fibers.

Frisenvang is a yarn company dedicated to producing sustainable handspun alpaca yarn by working directly with the alpaca breeders. Foregoing the middle man, this company aims to support the breeders and allow them to start living better lives by enabling the breeders to profit.

"Frisenvang produces beautiful, organic alpaca yarns while maintaining sustainability," the spokesperson said, adding that now, the team at Frisenvang is hoping to increase their inventory with stunning new colors, including light blue, dark green, and red.

"Frisenvang is currently the only company supporting a project that puts the full production process into the hands of the breeders. They perform carding, handspinning, plant dying, and bundling."

To help raise money to support their innovative project, the owners of Frisenvang yarn company recently launched a fundraiser on Kickstarter. There, they hope to raise $2,073 through crowdfunding. Supporting Frisenvang's efforts through their Kickstarter will enable the company to keep working directly with the breeders, allowing them to continue supplying high quality, luxurious yarn to the public while supporting ethical business practices.
