Stacey Honowitz Will Take Part in an Upcoming Continuing Legal Education Seminar About Protecting Children

The state prosecutor and supervisor of the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit for the Broward State Attorney's Office is proud to have an active role in such an important event.

MIAMI, FL / ACCESSWIRE / May 14, 2021 / Florida litigator Stacey Honowitz is honored to announce that she has been invited to act as a presenter and panelist during an upcoming continuing legal education (CLE) seminar on the subject of mitigating the painful and stressful experiences children can suffer when they are drawn into criminal cases, custody battles, and other situations involving the law. The seminar, which is sponsored by the Florida Bar's Legal Needs of Children Committee and is entitled ‘Protecting Children From Trauma in the Legal Process', will be held via Zoom on June 10, 2021 at 2PM.

Stacey Honowitz will be co-hosting the criminal portion of a presentation entitled ‘A Trauma-Informed Approach in Criminal & Civil Cases - From Incident to Post-Trial' along with Roseanne Eckert. The civil portion of that presentation will be hosted by Stacie J. Schmerling and Kayla Riera-Gomez. Topics will include forensic interviews, practical considerations and assessments, traumas of litigation, establishing rapport/building trust, delays/continuances, subpoenas, compulsory examinations, depositions/hearings/trials, an obligation to protect children on both sides of the "v", and engaging therapists before, during, and after. Other presenters and panelists at the seminar include Hon. Nushin Sayfie, Dr. Sheila Rapa, and Lisa M. Elliot. The seminar will be moderated by Justin D. Grosz. About Stacey Honowitz:

Stacey Honowitz is a thirty-year veteran of the Broward State Attorney's Office and supervisor of the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit. Her job is to investigate, indict, and prosecute cases involving child molestation, child and adult sexual battery, and all cases of physical abuse, child neglect, and child endangerment. An assiduous litigator, she has successfully prosecuted many high-profile cases in Southern Florida, including the case of Raymond Adams, the infamous gymnastics coach and repeat sex offender. Outside the courtroom, Stacey tours the country giving lectures to parents and teachers about how best to address the topic of sexual abuse with children.

In the past, Stacey has made appearances as a legal expert on television shows such as Good Morning America, Dateline NBC, CBS News 48 Hours, Anderson Cooper 360, and served as ‘on-air' legal analyst for Larry King Live for a period of seven years. Stacey Honowitz is also a published author, having penned articles for USA Today, the Washington Post, the Huffington Post, People magazine, and the Miami Herald. She has been the subject of features in periodicals such as Ocean Drive, Jewish Journal, the Los Angeles Times, and Glamour magazine. Stacey has also written two children's books designed to facilitate frank discussions with young kids about abuse and sexual crimes, as well as another book dealing with childhood bullying currently pending publication.
