HOLLA rebranding as Laksa with new company vision following acquisition by live-streaming giant
LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / June 2, 2021 / HOLLA Group, parent company of fast-growing mobile video chat apps Monkey and HOLLA, which connect users around the world through its unique match algorithm and live video communication to make new friends in real time, has announced it has been acquired by live-streaming entertainment giant Huafang Group.
Huafang Group is one of the largest live-streaming companies in China, with over 300 million registered users and over 50 million MAUs. Through its acquisition of HOLLA Group, the company will be expanding its global footprint with HOLLA Group's 30 million users worldwide.
HOLLA Group is behind Monkey, an immensely popular Gen Z social app that combines social networking with streetwear and fashion by partnering with celebrity designers to create uniquely designed merch items for its users. Under HOLLA Group co-founder Allen Loh, formerly COO and Head of Growth, Monkey consistently maintained a top ranking in the U.S. App Store.
Following the acquisition, HOLLA Group will rebrand as Laksa and the team will move forward with a whole new mission: "To accelerate the global adoption of real-time communication in the online space in order to connect more people around the world in more engaging and meaningful ways."
The newly rebranded HOLLA Group will be led by Eric Tao, its co-founder and former CEO, who was recently appointed as Chief Innovation Officer of Huafang Group. Eric will lead the group's strategies in global expansion and innovation initiatives, serving alongside Yu Dan, co-founder and CEO of Huafang Group.
The team plans to leverage the new strategies and resources from the acquisition to continue building unique, real-time user experiences for consumers in the digital world. HOLLA Group is also working on a big new project currently in stealth, to build a "metaverse" for Generation Z (more details to come).
