Ransomware is the biggest and most urgent cybersecurity threat.
NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / January 27, 2023 / Nero Consulting used to just consult on "fixing computer issues," but over the last 10 years the company has been busy crafting first line defenses against cyberattacks. Offering a combination of unique security policies and specialized tools, coupled with AI automation, Nero has been busy preventing, detecting and responding to cyberattacks. Nero's clients range from public companies to small and mid-sized private businesses, including high-net worth individuals who need white glove IT security in their personal lives.
"I tell my clients all the time that cybersecurity doesn't have to be overwhelming or complicated if you know what you're up against," said Nero Consulting CEO Anthony Oren. "The first step to protecting yourself or your business is understanding your risk. The second step is to expect an attack. We then build defenses around that."
These days, committing cyber crime is "easy and anonymous," according to Oren.
"More than ever before, cyber criminals have the ability to disrupt Americans' lives from anywhere in the world," reads a March 22 report from the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs.
"Over time, attackers' tactics have evolved and improved and cyberattacks now have the potential to paralyze entire industry sectors. Organizations are racing to update their systems and improve their defenses to counter this threat. The proliferation of ransomware attacks is a primary example of this challenge."
In 2021 alone, there were an estimated 623.3 million attempted ransomware attacks worldwide-an average of 20 every second. The U.S. fell victim to the largest number of ransomware attempts at 421.5 million-a 98 percent increase over 2020. Two recent and notable attacks created a gasoline shortage by shutting down Colonial Pipeline, which moves almost half of the East Coast's fuel supply between Texas and New Jersey. A similar attack by a separate criminal group disrupted the meat supply chain of JBS, the world's largest meat processor, causing the price of meat to increase. Both companies ultimately paid tens of millions of dollars in ransomware.
Nero's services to combat ransomware unfolds through its NightCrawler.ai platform, which includes advanced file scanning technologies to monitor for "mass changes" on computers and enterprise-grade security policies that apply to personal and "at home" devices which are a common source of business compromise. Nero also deploys behavioral analytics monitored by AI, and a 24/7 human-centric security operations center for clients that need it. The Nero team also offers interactive in-person training and business email compromise simulations to their clients at no extra cost to keep cyber security awareness top of mind for their customers.
For non-customers, Nero offers a complimentary one-time scan with NightCrawler.ai's Dark Web search and auditing tool for any business seeking IT support.
The scan reveals how vulnerable critical business assets may be to cyberattacks and theft. Nero analyzes a company's IT infrastructure and determines if employee usernames and passwords are being sold on the Dark Web in advance of a "brute force attack" on a firm.
At the end of the day, Oren said, referring to the reality of cyber attacks these days, "people will continue to do dumb stuff like re-use passwords and open email attachments blindly. We need smarter tools to close that gap paired with constant training to beat the bad guys."
