Brain Racers Releases an AI-powered Engine to Personalize Education and Accelerate Learning

Thursday, 16 March 2023 09:10 AM

SAN FRANCISCO, CA / ACCESSWIRE / March 16, 2023 / Brain Racers, the AI enhanced esports platform for education, launches an intelligence engine to combat learning loss head-on. Using a blend of statistics and machine learning, this tool offers a customized experience for each student, accelerating their learning and giving them an advantage over standard education pathways. Brain Racers already engages students by gamifying curriculum-based content and leverages esports to further boost motivation.

Before 2020, most learning loss in school was attributed to the summer hiatus, when students spend less time actively acquiring knowledge. It's not uncommon for students to fall behind by a month, especially in the areas of reading and math, but teachers had grown accustomed to this yearly adjustment, so they were prepared.

When COVID-19 caused schools to close their doors and students traded classrooms for kitchen tables, no one knew the effects the unregulated learning system would have on students academically. There was no doubt it would be massive.

A Brooking Institution article shared the following:

We tracked changes in math and reading test scores across the first two years of the pandemic using data from 5.4 million U.S. students in grades 3 - 8. We focused on test scores from immediately before the pandemic (fall 2019), following the initial onset (fall 2020), and more than one year into pandemic disruptions (fall 2021).

Average fall 2021 math test scores in grades 3 - 8 were 0.20 - 0.27 standard deviations (SDs) lower relative to same-grade peers in fall 2019, while reading test scores were 0.09 - 0.18 SDs lower. This is a sizable drop. For context, the math drops are significantly larger than estimated impacts from other large-scale school disruptions, such as after Hurricane Katrina-math scores dropped 0.17 SDs in one year for New Orleans evacuees.

The AI-powered engine ‘learns' the individual needs of each student based on the results of their gameplay and adjusts their educational journey so they can progress more efficiently. Engagement is the key to successful results, and Brain Racers has developed a unique system that has shown to cut learning time by 30 - 60 percent with guided teacher support.

Individualized attention for students is ideal, but time constraints in education and student-to-teacher ratios make this nearly impossible. Brain Racers bypasses these limitations by offering teachers the supplemental support they need so they can focus on maximizing the quality of their instructional output. Getting time back and focusing on what really matters positively impacts teachers as well as students.

"Our personalization engine will keep improving, and by using a mix of creative content, gamified mechanics, and pedagogical modalities, we accelerate learning in ways beyond what we imagined." - Gianender Khanna, CEO of Brain Racers

By providing an enhanced learning experience based on each student's needs, teachers can use the data extracted from the software to pinpoint learning deficiencies and adjust the student's learning experience to make it more effective.

Gianender goes on to share, "It is not only about acceleration towards mastery of the curriculum. We have to provide kids with a fun, sustainable path forward. This means, for example, curating content so that they can also answer many questions correctly, which strengthens their confidence and creates a love for that subject."

Since personalization is the driving force behind Brain Racers' deep learning engine, their unique data set can't be duplicated. The more it learns, the smarter it gets, placing Brain Racers in the driver's seat to transform the early education landscape.

The AI team is led by Koyuki Nakamori who brings 15 years of experience, including being the previous Head of Machine Learning for Headspace; and Qi Shao who adds another 10 years of experience in machine learning.

About

The new AI-powered engine is in beta and is expected to be released to more teachers and students in batches.
