AUSTIN, TX / ACCESSWIRE / May 29, 2024 / Leading digital identity provider Unstoppable Domains (UD), in partnership with Secret Network, the confidential computing layer of Web3, today announces the launch of the ".Secret" Web3 top-level domain (TLD). The new domain will allow the Secret Network community to integrate end-to-end encrypted communications alongside a litany of other benefits.
In the future, UD and Secret Network will also complete an application for a branded Web2 generic top-level domain (gTLD) with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). This is the entity that regulates addresses in the traditional Domain Name System (DNS). Scheduled for 2026, the next ICANN gTLD issuance will decide if .secret will carry the same standing iconic addresses such as .com, .org, and .net.
Secret Network provides a confidential computing layer across various blockchain platforms to support advanced privacy features for applications, such as private voting, encrypted storage, and sealed-bid auctions.
As part of the partnership, Unstoppable and Secret will explore the feasibility of adding privacy to Unstoppable Domains' products. By integrating Secret's Confidential Computing Layer, Unstoppable may be able to offer private domain registration to its customers, keeping registrant's on-chain identity protected at all times, and maintaining full encryption for domain metadata.
The new .Secret Web3 domains will serve not only as website addresses but as fully-fledged digital identifiers that people can use to create their unique digital profiles.
