Thrive for Life: Bridging the Gap Between Healthcare and Home Accessibility

Wednesday, 18 September 2024 05:00 AM

HONOLULU, HI / ACCESSWIRE / September 18, 2024 / Thrive for Life, co-founded by Damian Sempio, is leading the charge in making homes wheelchair accessible and safer for individuals with diverse needs, including those looking to age in place. With a unique blend of medical expertise and construction know-how, Thrive for Life is revolutionizing home modifications and accessibility consulting, ensuring that every client receives solutions tailored to their specific requirements, including ADA ramps, wheelchair lifts, and ADA bathrooms.

In a significant development, Palolo Chinese Carehome (palolohome.org) received a grant of approximately $1.2 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on August 30th. This grant marked a crucial step in enhancing the care home's ability to provide safe and wheelchair accessible living environments for its residents. Damian Sempio and Catia Garell were in attendance at this momentous event, underscoring their commitment to improving accessibility standards in the community.

Damian Sempio, a seasoned occupational therapist with over two decades of experience, has always been driven by a passion for helping others. After earning his BS in occupational therapy from the University of Southern California in 2001, Damian's career has spanned geriatrics, working with people who have suffered catastrophic injuries, and pediatric care. His journey into home modification began when he noticed a disturbing trend among his clients-many were facing subpar wheelchair accessible renovations that failed to meet their needs, often resulting in costly and dangerous mistakes.

"My business partner and I saw a gap between housing and healthcare," Damian explains. "Contractors and medical professionals weren't speaking the same language, and that disconnect was putting lives at risk for injury. We decided to bridge that gap and become the interpreter."

This realization led Damian to partner with Catia Garell to create Thrive for Life, a Honolulu-based firm specializing in accessibility consulting and wheelchair accessible home modifications. Thrive for Life has served thousands of clients, providing them with safe, accessible living environments designed to meet their unique needs. Damian's experience as an accessible specialist and expertise in ADA regulations further enhance the firm's ability to guide clients through compliance, ensuring that spaces are not only functional but also legally sound.

Despite his extensive experience and success, Damian acknowledges that his journey has not been without challenges. "Some of the hardest obstacles have been juggling multiple stakeholders in projects," he admits. "These experiences have taught me the importance of taking the time to listen to everyone's needs, to ensure every detail is addressed."

Looking ahead, Damian's ambitions extend beyond individual projects. "Our goal is to change national policy and implement funding so that every home in the U.S. has the opportunity to be safe, accessible, and equipped with ADA-compliant features like ramps and wheelchair lifts," he says. This vision reflects Thrive for Life's commitment to making a broader impact, particularly for those who have experienced catastrophic injuries.

Thrive for Life has quickly become the premier firm for accessibility solutions, earning a reputation for delivering high-quality, medically informed home modifications. "We want our clients to know that we're the go-to firm for solving their needs," Damian emphasizes. Whether it's retrofitting a bathroom to be an ADA bathroom, installing a wheelchair ramp, or ensuring full ADA compliance, Thrive for Life provides comprehensive services that prioritize safety, functionality, and peace of mind.
