UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESSWIRE / September 19, 2024 / Marquis Who's Who honors Richard Larson for his expertise as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and his work as an author. Dr. Larson's new book, "Model Thinking for Everyday Life," introduces readers to a system for becoming a better thinker and decision-maker. An award-winning author and academic, Dr. Larson uses this book to share his methods for success in both the simple and complex facets of everyday life.

Dr. Richard Larson

Dr. Larson has enjoyed fulfilling and storied careers in academia and beyond. Earlier in life, he was uncertain of where he wanted to focus his efforts. His mentor, Professor Al Drake, invited him to attend MIT. There, he pursued operations research, seeing the multitude of career opportunities it presented. In 1969, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in operations research.

Dr. Larson would end up staying with MIT for an impressive 54 years, earning distinction as a chaired professor. From 1969 to 2019, he focused his efforts on operations research, both in theoretical approaches and applied practices. He often worked jointly with doctoral students, emphasizing the possibilities for urban applications. His best-known development in this field is the Hypercube Queuing Model. The Hypercube Queuing Model uses a rigorous mathematical foundation for an important class of distributed queuing systems. This applies to emergency response systems, including police, fire and emergency medical.

In addition to his prestigious academic career, Dr. Larson managed an independent consulting firm for 40 years. His firm catered to the public and urban sectors. With expertise in operations research and mathematical modeling, Dr. Larson's firm undertook various public projects in New York City.

"Model Thinking for Everyday Life" will not be Dr. Larson's first publication. He has co-authored an "Urban Operations Research" textbook with Professor Amedeo Odoni at MIT, which has since been translated into multiple languages and cited by hundreds of individuals. His PhD thesis at MIT led to him authoring a book called "Urban Police Patrol Analysis."

Among Dr. Larson's other achievements, he has served as the president of both the Operations Research Society of America (ORSA) and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). He co-founded the MIT BLOSSOMs (Blended Learning Open Source Science Or Math Studies) program, which offers one of the first widely distributed science and math-oriented Open Source Learning repositories ever created.

Shortly after the publication of "Model Thinking for Everyday Life," Dr. Larson's lifetime of achievement and contributions to the field of operations research was acknowledged by his induction into the Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry.

In "Model Thinking for Everyday Life," Dr. Larson uses a framework of conceptual and mathematical tools to help guide readers to better comprehension and decisions. Through this book, Dr. Larson shares his expertise in model-making and critical thinking skills, which he has developed over his years in operations research. The book promises to present complex technical issues comprehensively and entertainingly, without the need for heavy math.

From the world of academia to urban street planning, Dr. Larson has developed models for success. Life can be challenging, but Dr. Larson has demonstrated the power of the mind to overcome these challenges. To follow in his footsteps, he urges others to be open and flexible to new ideas and information, even if they lead to a change or deviation in their thinking. Those wishing to learn more about Dr. Larson's techniques for better thinking and decision-making can order his new book, "Model Thinking for Everyday Life," and follow his LinkedIn page to learn more about his career and contributions.
