UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESSWIRE / November 1, 2024 / Marquis Who's Who has honored Karen Schuman for her contributions to art and community. Ms. Schuman is an artist aiming to teach others to live in harmony with earth and nature through creative expression. Her role as the founder and director of Dancing Krow Studio reflects her dedication to spreading a creative spirit throughout her community, with the art gallery serving as a place to source that inspiration.
A Varied Creative Background
Before Ms. Schuman started her creative career, she completed a general education in administrative assistant and secretarial science studies at Robert Morris College from 1979 to 1980. Following this initial education, Ms. Schuman decided to study oil painting at the Edward Cathony Studio of Art. While growing in her artistic skills, she also participated in both Kundalini and Hatha yoga and classical ballet and learned from the Toltec elder Allan Hardman. From 1980 to 1990, she grew artistically and spiritually through these various practices and learnings.
Becoming the Founder of Dancing Krow Studio
Ms. Schuman began her professional career as a personal assistant and junior accounts manager at the Garfield-Linn Advertising Agency, serving in this position from 1981 to 1983. After completing her time in this role, Ms. Schuman became focused on revitalization efforts in her community. She and her husband owned an apartment building in Oak Park along the west side of Chicago, and they were determined to create a great community. Working with a community activist, Ms. Schuman decided to ask landlords in the area if their vacant and underused storefronts could be used to display art. Eventually, she rented two spaces to start a gallery, initially called "The Art House," which ran as a nonprofit gallery.
Continued Operation and Recognition
The renamed Dancing Krow Studio has operated as a studio and art gallery since 1996, showcasing sculptures and paintings from across the community for 28 years. For her work, Ms. Schuman has been featured in 11 editions of the "American Art Collector Book" and once as a top professional in The Wall Street Journal. She has received several awards, including first place from The Art League in Oak Park in 2021 and second place in 2023, as well as recognition as a Top Professional Artist for 2024.
Ms. Schuman has published her work at americanartwork.net every year for over 10 years and contributed to the "American Art Collector Book" from 2012 to 2016. Sharing art with others has remained her greatest passion since her time in that first art studio, and this continued effort is a reflection of this dedication. As the director of Dancing Krow Studio, Ms. Schuman has only improved her ability to share art with the wider community, participating in local events and promoting creativity.
Using Art to Connect with the Community
Ever committed to her community, Ms. Schuman joined the Oak Park Arts District as soon as the Dancing Krow Studio was founded, participating in hosting art workshops for community members experiencing homelessness. She has always been proud of seeing the way her art touches others. Looking toward the future, Ms. Schuman hopes to continue sharing her art with the world through her gallery and community initiatives, demonstrating the harmonious potential of creativity.
