Before her success in entrepreneurial ventures, Ms. Louthain worked as a public servant for the federal government for 32 years. She began her government career at the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Indianapolis, Indiana and then transferred to the Veterans Affairs Headquarters in Washington, D.C., where she was trained to become a management analyst. In this role, she traveled across the country to VA hospitals and regional offices, where she analyzed management practices and prepared key reports for the VA Administrator. One of her notable achievements was a successful study on relocating the Veterans Administration Regional Office from Juneau, Alaska, to Anchorage, Alaska, which she presented to the House and Senate Veterans Affairs Committee staff. For her exceptional work on this project, she received the VA Public Service Award in 1979.
Following this position, Ms. Louthain transitioned to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) as a management analyst, where she also conducted efficiency studies of various military departments and posts. Later she became a systems accountant and worked on major financial systems supporting military operations.
Throughout the span of her federal service, Ms. Louthain's goal was always to improve the operations of the government. She acquired extensive expertise in decision-making, data analysis, complex reporting, accounting, and legal issues, all of which contributed to the improvement of many financial systems and services she reviewed.
After she retired in 2000, Ms. Louthain decided to pursue personal business ventures and made it her goal to found a company that would earn a profit. The skills she developed in government, such as producing accurate and complex reports, influenced her decision to enter the literary market.
Since 2000, Ms. Louthain has occupied the position of president at Alexie Enterprises, Inc. She has written and published various creative works, including books, magazine articles, columns, and newsletters. She has co-published two children's books of her own, in addition to a book written by Dr. Suzanne B. Knoebel, a world-renowned physician who served as the first female president of the American College of Cardiologists.
Ms. Louthain's first book, "Tagger: Alone Along the Mystic River," was a child's novel inspired by a bedtime story told to her by her father, who also instilled in her a love for the English language. Because of its success, this book was included in the Children's Fall 2001 Book Sense 76 List of books recommended by the American Booksellers Association.
To promote her publications, Ms. Louthain participated in numerous publisher conferences, seminars, and courses. For more exposure, she started an online newsletter for baby boomers called Boomer-ING, where she not only promoted her books but provided articles to help members face the challenges of aging. Shortly afterwards, she began writing a column for a senior news magazine also called Boomer-ING and received a Feature Writing Award from the North American Mature Publishers Association in 2005.
Ms. Louthain's business acumen and expertise in online promotions have caused her business to flourish under her leadership. Ms. Louthain received a strong educational foundation while in pursuit of her career goals. She earned a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in French and psychology from Indiana University. Following this, she pursued a Master of Public Administration degree at the Washington Public Affairs Center of the University of Southern California. In her 50s, Ms. Louthain decided to return to school to further hone her knowledge, earning an additional major in accounting.
In the coming years, Ms. Louthain plans to continue operating her online business, but in a more abbreviated manner. She has engaged in a variety of hobbies outside of her professional life, including sailing, skiing, golfing, shuffleboard, and team trivia.
Ms. Louthain has earned her status as a Marquis Who's Who individual through her successes in both the private and public sectors and the far-reaching influence of her authorial works. The honor of the Lifetime Achievement Award further solidifies the legacy of her work.
