Metis has solved the issue of the sequencer centralization and is inviting users for the Proof-of-Stake Sequencer Pool community testing ahead of the launch of the first-ever decentralized sequencer
TORONTO, ON / ACCESSWIRE / January 15, 2023 / Metis invites the Metis community to test the upcoming Metis Proof-of-Stake Sequencer Pool before its official launch on the mainnet later in 2024. Community testing will commence on January 15, 2024.
Layer 2 rollups provide users with quick, inexpensive transactions. However, they have been struggling with decentralization since they rely on sequencers, that is, entities who have the right to order the layer 2 transactions into groups so that they are recorded on the layer 1 blockchain. At the moment, all Ethereum-based layer 2 solutions use centralized sequencers, meaning they rely on a single point of contact. This makes them vulnerable and less secure than decentralized solutions.
Metis has been working on creating a shared decentralized sequencer, a solution that can be run by multiple parties, and it is on its way to becoming the first layer 2 rollup to achieve it. After extensive work on the decentralized sequencer, it is ready to move to the next testing stage before the launch on the mainnet, which is scheduled for Q1 2024.
On January 15, Community Testing for the Metis Decentralized Sequencer will go live on the Metis Sepolia Testnet. There are multiple advantages to a decentralized sequencer, including seamless and safe sequencer rotation, the expulsion of malfunctioning or malicious entities, and enhanced network stability.
Metis Proof-of-Stake Sequencer Pool will offer:
- 24/7 Liveness
- Enhanced Censorship Resistance
- Enhanced Security
- Fee Sharing
Fee sharing, or revenue sharing, will be enabled via Sequencer Mining (another term for staking). We will likely see:
- Sequencer Staking
- Liquid Staking DApps
- Staking-as-a-Service DApps
The testing will be divided into two seasons, and users will be able to earn points by completing activities.
Season 1, kicking off January 15, will offer users the opportunity to interact with Metis dApps deployed on the Sepolia Testnet, allowing developers to stress-test the sequencer pool to make the necessary changes before the official launch.
The already announced dApps include:
- League.Tech
- Tethys Finance
- Midas Games
- Netswap
- Hummus Finance
Season 2 of Community Testing for the Metis Decentralized Sequencer will be revealed near the end of Season 1.
