What happened?
On or around September 27, 2024, MoneyGram identified a security breach that resulted in a five-day service disruption, during which customers were unable to access or transfer funds. The unauthorized access by hackers occurred between September 20 and September 22, 2024, prompting the subsequent system shutdown. As a result of this breach, certain personal information, such as names, contact details, transaction specifics, Social Security numbers, government-issued identification records, and phone numbers, may have been compromised.
How can I protect my personal data?
If you receive a data breach notification, you need to guard against possible misuse of your personal information, including identity theft and fraud, by regularly reviewing your account statements and monitoring your credit reports for suspicious or unauthorized activity. Additionally, you should consider legal options for mitigating such risks.
Edelson Lechtzin LLP is investigating bringing a class action lawsuit to seek legal remedies on behalf of customers who may have had their sensitive personal and patient data compromised by the MoneyGram data breach.
